Teaching Skip Counting plus a free printable
Teaching skip counting has been a fun experience with my little guy. Skip counting can be done by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, obviously you can do 25, or 50 if you wanted as well. This important skill allows us to count a large amount faster and prepares students for multiplication and division. Skip counting develops reasoning skills and can be used in estimation.
To teach my guy skip counting we used legos to help visualize the process. That really seemed to help. You can read more about that here.
When I wrote that post up we were working on skip counting by 2’s. We are now working on 5’s and 10’s. To help my little guy remember I created these neat little reminder bracelets for him to wear while he practices in his workbooks. I simply printed them out, cut them out, laminated them and then added a little Velcro to the ends. He can look at his wrist any time he needs a little reminder.
